Temporary ban on import of private light vehicles

The Prime Minister, Jigmi Y Thinley , verbally announced this morning, during the mid term review exercise of the information and communications ministry, that import of private light vehicles will be temporarily stopped until the Supreme Court comes out with a verdict on the government's appeal.

On November 29, the ruling government appealed to the Supreme Court on the verdict of the High Court on the first Constitutional case between the opposition and the government.

The government and the opposition went to court on the revision of vehicle taxes.

The High Court on November 18 ruled that the government had not followed the procedure in revising vehicle taxes and ordered that the tax collected be refunded.
